An interesting evening organised by Lion John Boydell at the Boat Inn. Phil Wilson, a well known Ironbridge resident, gave an illustrated talk on a life and career which has included engineer, deepsea salvage diver/underwater welder, pilot, heavy horse supremo, entrepreneur, polecat breeder, and vintage vehicle restorer, to name but a few !. Deep sea diving is a dangerous career but, ironically, Phil came closest to a fatal accident in a tank of water in a field in Dudley when he set a new world recordĀ  of 22 hours for underwater endurance in a victorian diving suit. You can read more about Phil’s life and career, including his near-fatal world record dive in this Shropshire Star article
