Christmas is a busy time for Ironbridge Lions; our Christmas activities generally start in the last week of November with the switching on of the lights in Madeley and Ironbridge and we are then on the go almost continuously right up to around 4pm on Christmas Eve. That period is particularly important as we generally raise around half the funds that we need to support good causes during the following year.

Now that everything has been counted it is clear that this year we broke all previous records with over £7000 raised from the various campaigns – that’s 44% up on the previous year. Some of that came from our traditional Santa sleigh collections some from new ventures such as the Christmas-dressed teddies as draw prizes in shops and pubs. We also made 100 eco-friendly Christmas trees from old pallets which we then painted and decorated with LED lighting. Over the same period we managed to collect over £5000-worth of non-perishable food which enabled us to make up around 130 hampers for families in crisis at Christmas.

Our sincere thanks to everyone who made that possible – to the members and Friends of the club who worked tirelessly as usual and particularly to those who donated the food and the cash. The enormous generosity of people in our community never ceases to amaze or move us.
