Just one Silver over the Bridge event in June, 2019 – on Sunday 23rd. This one was in aid of the Wellbeing Madeley Community café. The Café on Madeley High Street was opened by The Telford and Wrekin Council for Voluntary Services (CVS)  in 2018 as a multi-purpose venue with the aim of promoting independent living and helping reduce costs of care and support needs.

People with a wide range of conditions such as autism, multiple sclerosis, and dementia as well as vulnerable and homeless people looking for paths into the jobs market, are able to access early advice and find their own solutions before needing support.

23rd June was a somewhat overcast day with a threat of rain but that didn’t dampen either the spirits of the team or the generosity of the public. When the coins were peeled from the sticky tape at the end of the day, we had £450  Plus (thanks to a visiting group from the Netherlands) 11 Euros. And while the Lions were collecting on the Bridge, Debbie Gibbon, CVS Chief Executive, and her band of volunteers were selling hot drinks and delicious food items from a stall near the Toll House.

All in all, a very enjoyable day meeting some really lovely people and raising funds for a great community resource.
