Like most community service organisations, ironbridge Lions club finds it difficult to attract new members. We are fortunate to have a superb body of Friends of the club who respond magnificently to the call for support at times of maximum pressure  such as Christmas. There is however an urgent need to maintain the strength and vigour of the core membership, ideally by attracting some younger members with fresh ideas and enthusiasm.
Against this background the club has launched a major recruitment drive supported by a new leaflet which is being delivered to around 5000 houses in the area and by articles such as the following which is being published in the Ironbridge parish magazine for December:

Be a Lion – make a difference

Ironbridge and Severn Gorge Lions have been serving the community of South Telford for more than 37 years. You will have seen us around the area – perhaps we bring our Santa sleigh to your street or we knock on your door for food donations for Christmas hampers. You may have seen us collecting on the Iron Bridge in the summer or maybe tending the planting round the Madeley war memorial.

In these and many other ways during the course of the year we aim to make a difference in our own community and to make a contribution to our international funds to enable rapid response to major emergencies such as the devastation caused by hurricane Matthew in Haiti or the  recent Italian earthquake. And every penny we raise goes to a good cause; all our admin costs are met by the members themselves.

Our club is one of 46,000 around the world with over 1.35 million members all very different but all sharing a core belief that our community is what we make it. If you share that view, then why not consider joining us either as a member or as a friend of the club.

Lions clubs offer new experiences and new friendships a wide variety of volunteering opportunities. But we know that life is busy so any involvement can be tailored to fit around your other commitments at home and work. Whether you want to just lend an occasional helping hand or to become more actively involved, we have an option for you. Being a Lion allows you to help change lives and you can commit as much time as you wish or your schedule allows.
